Day 1: Highs, Lows and Showing Up

The first day of my writing challenge is done, and it’s time to check in with how the day went.
Firstly, I’m completely drained. But I know what I need to do differently tomorrow.
Let’s start with the highs:
· Being interviewed live on BBC Radio Surrey – met the lovely James Cannon who made my first (and probably last!) radio interview an absolute pleasure (you can catch up with it here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002hl55 (starts at 2:41:23)
· Meeting lots of lovely people in the bookshop, many of whom had come in to show their support for this crazy author
· Signed some books for people
· A lovely woman from Poland telling me I’d inspired her to carry on with her writing – that’s priceless.
· I managed 6000 words, which although not enough, was more than I’ve ever written in a day before. Just means the pressure is on to write more for the next 6 days

And the lows:
· Mad rush from the studios to Paper Moon and no time to ease into it.
· Tech issues with the streaming on YouTube
· Bad headache from staring at the screen for so long
· Didn’t eat lunch even though it was right there next to me in my bag
· Didn’t hit planned word count
· Didn’t stretch my legs enough
What I’ll do differently tomorrow:
· Write in 45-minute sprints, with a 15-minute break
· Don’t get distracted talking to lovely bookshop customers
· Be prepared for how tough it is to write in one spot all day!
· Eat lunch!

I’m exhausted, my head hurts, but I showed up and I did the first day. Now I need to up my game.
Don’t miss out on all the riveting action of me sitting at my laptop all day barely moving: https://www.youtube.com/@AuthorKathrynCroft
Thank you to everyone who showed their support today whether in person, online, or just silently watching on YouTube(!)
